HELP!!!! Owen has started taking his diaper off consistently at bedtime and naptime and when he wakes from either. Most nights when we check on him before bed he's asleep, completely naked from waist down. He usually hasn't peed any where at this point. We put his diaper and pants back on. When he wakes up in the morning he usually removes his diaper again, this time peeing wherever he pleases. Some mornings I never even hear him and assume he's still sleeping. This happened this morning...and I'm now washing sheets and matress pads. Ugh. I put him down for nap and after 15 minutes I went in to remind him to lay down and be quiet only to find him naked and pee on the floor. I've put the little potty in his room, but he has yet to go on it.
I feel like he's starting to know when he needs to go, but I'm not sure I'm up to training him in my current state. (On the otherside, I'm not sure I'm up to cleaning up daily pee messes in my current state.) Duck tape is an idea...but seems a bit over the top and might not work anyway. Any brilliant ideas for reasoning with a 2 year old? I'm afraid I'm just going to have to potty train him...but will it work for nap and nights this soon?
Changing subjects...we did another NST and ultrasound of Marley and she looks GREAT!!! I'm still in awe that things are going this smoothly. I'm so so excited. My baby showers start this week and I'm getting excited. It's all becoming very real. The boys got to go up to the hospital with us when we did the tests and they were so cute. It concerned them a little to see me laying in a hopsital bed hooked up to monitors. Shepherd kept asking my doctor if Marley was going to get to come out. At one point I looked down and Owen was patting my leg saying "it's okay, mommy". I'm glad that they got to be familiarized with the room. Hopefully it'll make it less scary for them on October 23rd.
Finally the weather is a little cooler here!! I'm enjoying it greatly.

Book Focuses on Redhead by Emily Toman TDT staff

Everywhere Marla Livers goes, people ask about her son Shepherd's
fiery red hair. Now, the 3-year-old Temple boy has a spot in a book seen
around the country.
Shepherd appears in the novelty children's
book "Little Redheads Across
America"" that depicts submitted photos
of redheaded children under age l0 along
with facts about the common traits that
redheads share.
Local photographer Lori Bamidge took
the Livers' family photos in February
2008. When she heard about the book
she thought of Shepherd - the only redhead
in Temple she had photographed.
"I think he's the cutest little redheaded
kid I've ever seen," Ms. Barnidge said. 'I thought he would be perfect.,'
The book's author Nicole Giladi agreed. She separated the pages by state.
Each photo has a short bio, including the children's hometoms and
favorite things.
"Many of these kids come from small towns and might be the only redheads
they know," Ms. Giladi said. "I hope they learn about their traits
instead of feeling awkward."
She wrote the book to give redheaded children a sense ofbelonging but
also to educate people about where the tait originates - how someone
with no apparent history of red hair can give birth to a redhead.
It requires a recessive gene carried by both the mother and father. Mrs.
Livers has two redheaded sisters,
but that has nothing to do
with her son. He's adopted.
The Livers had no children
though they had completed two
firll-term pregnancies. Due to
genes both she and her husband
carry, both babies died within
two months.
ln September 2005, her aunt called and said her friend's sister
in Oklahoma was pregnant but
wanted to give the baby up for
adoption. The Livers lived in
Little Rock Ark.. at the fime.
"I had kind of been opposed to
adoption because it was unusual
... and very expensive," Mrs.
Livers said.
The mother agreed to a closed
adoption, having n0 contact
with Shepherd after delivery.
Oklahoma state law required
Mn. Livers and her husband not
to leave the state with Shepherd
for 10 days. That's how long the
mother has to change her mind.
"l really felt like if she
changed her mind, it would be
another death," Mrs. Livers said.
"I really had a peace that it was
going to be OK."
Shortly after adopting
Shepherd, she successfully gave
birth to her 2-year-old son Owen
and is pregnant again with a girl,
Marley, due Oct. 31.
"We didn't want to have
regrets,' she said. "We didn't
want to go our lives wondering,
'What if we tried again?'"
As noted in Ms. Giladi's booh
Shepherd loves his little brother.
That, and spaghetti. Ms. Giladi
said the best stories came from
Texas - like the 2l-month-old
boy who fought against
leukemia and the little girl who
sleeps with her pet pig.
Mrs. Livers. unsure about how
quickly she would cornect with
an adopted baby, said she bonded
with Shepherd immediately
after he was bom.
"Our heart for adoption has
really changed," Mrs. Livers
said. "What if nobody adopted
Shepherd? Where would he be?
When you've lost children ...
I'm so thankful for the ones we
have even on the chaotic days."

Incooperative Marley Grace
I was relieved to know that she's still a girl. It was obvious right away.
She seriously had her feet almost in her mouth. She kept moving her mouth like she wanted to suck on her toes. I think she might end up being a gymnist.
She had the cord, both hands and feet right in front of her face. This made getting a decent picture very difficult. They "cut" away what they could but it made her look funky--hence the added glasses. I think she'll have the Livers lucious lips as we like to call them. Owen got them too.
I really hope she's cuter than this!! Guess we'll have to save the rest for a surprise on delivery day. Wednesday, September 2, 2009
My little celebrity
Shepherd and I met with a news reporter today from our local newspaper. She had hear about him from the author of the book he's in --Little Red Heads Across America. http://www.littleredheadsacrossamerica.com/ As most of my readers know, Shepherd has more to be proud of then just being in a book. His life is a miracle and how he came into our lives is a story in itself. I got to share all the details with the reporter. They're sending a camera crew out tomorrow to take a few pictures. Haaa. It's all a little weird, but I'm really excited. I'll let you know when the article comes out and try to post it here.
Also, I'm headed to get a 3-D ultrasound up at the hospital. They have a 3-D scanner through today...so I hustled to find a babysitter so that I can go up there. I'm secretly nervous everytime I get scanned that we'll find out that our "she" is actually a "he". Hopefully we'll get some good pictures and I'll post them as well. Gotta run.
